Laura Fenton: A Multi-Sport Champion and Pickleball Pioneer

Laura Fenton isn’t just a pickleball champion; she’s a force of nature in the world of sports. A five-time U.S. Open Pickleball Champion, she’s also a national champion in four other sports: basketball, softball, tennis, and racquetball. This remarkable multi-sport prowess is the foundation of her impactful career as an athlete, educator, and leader in the pickleball community.

Fenton’s pickleball achievements are impressive: over 700 camps taught across the globe, numerous medals (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) at USAPA National Championships and the Tournament of Champions, and victories in more than 65 “5.0 and pro-level” tournaments. But her athletic dominance extends far beyond the pickleball court.

For 15 years, Fenton was a member of the U.S. National Racquetball Team, a period marked by five World Championships, 36 National titles, two World Pro-Mixed Events, and two Pan American Games Gold Medals. She held a top-four ranking on the Women’s Professional Racquetball Tour for an astounding 11 years, achieving the coveted #1 ranking at the age of 44.

This unparalleled athletic experience is complemented by Fenton’s extensive academic background. As a college professor for 30 years, specializing in kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics, sports psychology, nutrition, neuroscience, mental imagery, and athletic training, she brings a uniquely informed perspective to her coaching. Her experience also includes coaching college basketball and high school tennis, motivational speaking, and sports broadcasting for Nebraska Volleyball, Basketball, and Division II College Football.

In 2014, Fenton founded World Team Pickleball (now WTP Pickleball Camps), pioneering the first team leagues in Columbus, Ohio, and subsequently expanding to offer camps and clinics. Today, she leads a team of over 15 coaches and is poised to host more than 150 camps and destination vacations worldwide in 2025.

Laura Fenton is more than a champion; she’s a multi-talented athlete, a dedicated educator, and a visionary leader who is shaping the future of pickleball and inspiring athletes of all ages and abilities.
